Insignificant to Magnificent

Sitting on the beach, contemplating life again
Listening to waves crash around me
I realize I am insignificant

Once I leave this place
The tide rescinds
The sand smooths
Like I was never there
Had never been

Drowning in the thought
As my footprints dissolve
I am just a sandman
On an oceanfront

Our lives are minuscule
We are nothing compared to the universe
Humans are cocky that way
We believe we are special
That each of us is unique

Beside all evidence to the contrary
I think I'm special
A legend in the making

I used to say
That my name and picture
Would grace the dictionary someday
I got a little older
My expectations lowered
Cuz that's what happens

Tell yourself you'll never be like your heroes

Well turns out
I'm special
I've got talent
Legends are self-made
From failures to the perfect execution

When you believe in yourself
There's no stopping the chain reaction
The rocket's blasted off
Officially leaving Earth's orbit
